1 year ago, the machine blew white smoke, so I changed fuel filter. it worked great. but today it happend again. so I chainged the fuel filter, but it still happend.Customer: I have a 2004 cat skid steer model 287 with a 4 cyl. perkins diesel. it all of a sudden started blowing white smoke. smells like unburned fuel. the air cleaners are new and it isnt runnung rough or lacking power. could the turbo be an issue or is there someplace else I . No to the oil- but we may have the fix. Talked to a mechanic today that said to check the hose coming off of the turbo on the exhaust side. If it has oil in it, bad turbo. If it has coolant in it, leaking head gasket on the exhaust side. Based off of the coolant smell and white smoke, we're guessing #2. It doesn't smell like burning oil.
